I adopted her from a couple who had just bought a small apartment and needed to 'downsize' their pets. I didn't really have much money for her or the equipment, but I knew how to take good care of her, so they were understanding at let me take her for almost nothing.

It may have been your sofa - I picked it up at a thrift store!
She's actually an Argentinean black and white tegu, and is a little grumpy with me because of being in a new home, but I hope she chills out and stops scratching me and whipping me with her tail soon =D

It's actually Argentina - that big country on the southernmost tip of South America. And she is not wild caught (that's actually illegal), but she was bred in captivity in Canada and they are fairly common among reptiles within the pet trade.
